Rickey Henderson, the Hall of Famer who colorfully combined style, flash and an unrivaled brilliance on the basepaths to become one of the defining players of his generation, died on Friday, according to various reports including from The New York Times. Henderson was 65. The Times report cited Dave Winfield, a friend and former teammate who posted a remembrance about Henderson on social media, though he did not give additional details about Henderson's death.

DALLAS - The Miami Marlins have agreed to trade infielder Jake Burger to the Texas Rangers in exchange for three minor leaguers, a league source told The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal. According to ESPN's Alden González, the Rangers will send infielders Echedry Vargas and Max Acosta and starting pitcher Brayan Mendoza to Miami in the deal.

We have acquired RHP Michael Lorenzen from the Texas Rangers in exchange for LHP Walter Pennington. Lorenzen, who was 5-6 with a 3.81 ERA in 18 starts for the Rangers, signed a one-year deal with Texas in late March after his free-agent market failed to materialize earlier in the offseason. With the looming returns of injured pitchers Cody Bradford, Dane Dunning, Tyler Mahle and Jacob deGrom expected to reinforce the Rangers' rotation, Lorenzen became expendable.

The trade market for one of baseball's best relievers got more complicated Thursday when the Oakland Athletics placed Mason Miller, their All-Star closer, on the 15-day injured list with a broken left hand. The move was backdated to Tuesday, the day after Miller - a right-hander - closed out a 4-0 victory over the Houston Astros. Miller, baseball's hardest thrower, has a 2.21 ERA and 15 saves and is not eligible for free agency until after the 2029 season.
