TARPON SPRINGS — People enjoying the sun and water at Fred Howard Park on Wednesday afternoon were treated to a unique Florida event as The Florida Aquarium released a green sea turtle near the south end of beach. The sea turtle, Buckley, was named after Buck Creek in Dixie County, where it was found more than a mile from the water.

CLEARWATER — Dozens of family, friends and local acquaintances stopped by The Landmark assisted living facility Dec. 17 to sing Happy Birthday to a local centenarian celebrating his 108th birthday. Chief Petty Officer William Monfort is the oldest living veteran in Florida; he served in World War II and was one of the first to hear the call for the attack on Pearl Harbor.
