Wednesday was a dry day and it was the warmest day of the workweek with highs in the mid-70s. We’ll have mostly cloudy skies this evening with a few widely scattered showers. Rain chances will rise after midnight and heading into Thursday. A storm system will slide over the state tomorrow and bring scattered rainfall throughout the day. Added clouds and showers will result in cooler temperatures by tomorrow afternoon with highs in the mid-60s.

After a sunny day with highs temperatures in the 70s, shower chances will return this afternoon and evening. A few strong thunderstorms may develop over the southern half of the area and produce gusty winds. Rotating storms with large hail will also be possible. The high temperature in Indianapolis was 81° Thursday afternoon. It was the third time this month for the city to reach a high of 81°, which is also the warmest temperature we’ve reached so far this year. We saw clouds build in the afternoon and a few isolated showers and storms brought some heavy downpours. Now, more rain is on the way. April has been a very wet month with nine days of measurable rainfall.
