    A Japanese-led venture called Space Walker aims to build Japan's first private spaceplane, the Eco Rocket. The company was present at this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025, where a representative told IE the company's focus is on making space travel more accessible and sustainable. On its website, Space Walker describes itself as a "Tokyo University of Science certified startup conducting research and development of spaceplanes." It aims to perform its first test flight by 2026.

    Electric motor manufacturer Donut Lab has shown off its latest innovation at CES 2025. The company's second-generation in-wheel drive units could drastically alter the way electric vehicles are designed. The new motor seemingly draws inspiration from the company's namesake – a big hole in the middle allows it to fit perfectly into a wheel. According to Donut Lab, this will reduce a lot of weight, while providing great gains in power and torque.

    Two shopkeepers who sold cigarettes to a child have been fined, a court has heard. The 13-year-old girl went into the Pound Saver Shop on Southfield Lane in Bradford as part of an undercover Trading Standards operation in May. She brought a packet of 20 Benson and Hedges cigarettes without being challenged or asked to show evidence of her age. On Monday, Mohammad Harun Seddighi and Nazi Seddighi pleaded guilty to offences under the Children and Young Persons Act 1933 at Kirklees Magistrates Court.

    Pupils who protested against plans to axe their school bus services have been described as "inspiring" at a council meeting. The controversial proposals to cancel routes serving St Bede's and St Joseph's Catholic School and Bingley Grammar School were debated by Bradford councillors on Tuesday night. Before the meeting, dozens of children from the two schools affected by the cuts held a demonstration demanding the authority reverse the decision which is expected to save £500,000 a year.
