The Midweek Read which comes tomorrow at 2 pm, was one of the most haunting and mysterious freelance stories we have printed. The author, Richard Smith, seems to have been in his early 20s when he wrote these conversations with the people he photographed while riding the San Diego Transit at night. The story came out Jan. 20, 1983. Is Smith still alive, how would one ever find him? This bus story was matched by Smith's longer story "A small room at the end of the hall" on the downtown YMCA.
