Artificial intelligence could help the grid add the energy it needs to handle ... AI. As I write today, the nation’s largest grid operator is teaming up with Google and Tapestry, Alphabet’s grid innovation arm, to use AI to speed up dramatically how it reviews applications for energy projects seeking to connect to the grid. That could be transformational for the grid operator PJM, which has a backlog of thousands of projects in a region that stretches across 13 states and the District of Columbia.
