Spring Hill College Honors Alumna’s Lifelong Mission of Service and Rebuilding

Mobile, Ala. – For more than 20 years, Lolo Pendergrast, a proud alumna of the class of 1978, has dedicated herself to volunteering in disaster-stricken areas, helping those in need. Pendergrast joined the Saint Bernard Project (SBP), a national nonprofit founded by Zach Rosenberg and Liz McCartney in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The organization focuses on rebuilding homes and restoring communities affected by disasters.
Spring Hill receives national endowment for the humanities grant

(Mobile, Ala.) – Spring Hill College has been awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to continue funding an educational initiative on The Hill. NEH is set to give the college $188,882 for the educational project titled From Clotilda to Community: The History of Mobile, Alabama’s Africatown. This five-day workshop focuses on educating K-12 teachers about the Landmarks of American History and Culture.

Mississippi Department of Education discusses chronic absenteeism

WXXV News 25 spoke with Dr. Donna Boone, the Chief Academic Officer at the Mississippi Department of Education. One of the major goals for the department this year is reducing absenteeism in the Magnolia State. The department said about one out of every six students missed three weeks or more of school in 2015 – 2016. These statistics prompted the department to work on ways to motivate students and parents to make school attendance a top priority.

Two people shot outside of Ocean Springs Police Department

The Ocean Springs Police Department is investigating a shooting that happened just outside of the police station on Monday. According to Ocean Springs Police Chief Ryan Lemaire, two people were shot following a dispute over a custody exchange. Chief Lemaire said one victim has since been transported to the hospital. It is unclear the condition of the victims at this time. WXXV News 25 will update you as more information becomes available.
