For the first time this season, the New York Mets (30-20) have endured a rough stretch. Back-to-back series defeats at the hands of the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox have dropped them to second place in the National League East. The offense has really dried up, scoring 1.87 runs per game over their last eight. However, they were able to muster up five runs in their lone win against the Red Sox on Wednesday.

This edition of the Subway Series is going to be special. I can’t think of one in the regular season that has garnered this much buzz and anticipation. Juan Soto is set to make his return to The Bronx as a member of the New York Mets (28-16), who own a 2 1/2-game lead atop the NL East. So far, the New York Yankees (25-18) have looked just fine without the superstar outfielder.

It’s safe to say the New York Mets’ (24-14) road trip had its ups and downs. It started off with a series loss to the St. Louis Cardinals, including a doubleheader sweep last Sunday. To their credit, the Mets were able to bounce back though, taking two of three over the Arizona Diamondbacks earlier this week. They dropped the middle game of that series but were able to regroup and win the rubber game, thanks to a good outing from Kodai Senga and two home runs from Juan Soto.

As a result, more than a few players on the team are trending in the right direction when it comes to betting odds for various awards. Let’s take a look at where the Mets currently stand a little over a month into the 2025 season.

For the second time in as many weeks, Juan Soto produced in a big way against the Arizona Diamondbacks. On May 1, he had a two-home run game in a 4-2 loss at Citi Field. Six days later, Soto had a similar type of performance at the plate against Arizona. The superstar outfielder led the New York Mets to a 7-1 victory Wednesday, having his second two-home run game in the month of May. He opened the scoring in the top of the sixth inning with a solo home run to deep center field.
