The New York Mets would not be where they are without their standout bullpen. As a group, they own a 2.09 ERA through 19 games, the third-best mark in all of baseball. One of the key arms that’s factored into the unit’s early success has been A.J. Minter. After a rocky appearance against the Miami Marlins on April 2, the left-hander has been razor sharp with seven-straight scoreless outings. Over his last 6 2/3 innings, opponents have only been able to get three hits off Minter.

After dropping two of their last three, the New York Mets (11-7) will be happy to return home. They were unable to take advantage of the struggling Minnesota Twins, losing the final two games of their series this week. That being said, the Mets still remain at the top of the NL East. They will start their homestand against the St. Louis Cardinals (9-9), a team caught in between as a whole. The NL Central is wide open, as it has been in recent years.

The battle between Luisangel Acuña and Brett Baty at second base is starting to take a side. For the first week or two, neither really separated themselves, at least at the plate. But that has since changed, as Acuña’s at bats significantly improved in the last week. He is starting to show some of the skills he brought to the table last season.

The New York Mets (8-4) are back on the road after a 5-1 homestand, highlighted by a three-game sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays. It has been a good start to the season, largely due to the Mets getting quality pitching from just about everyone. That will be put to the test against the Athletics (5-8), who are playing away from the Oakland Coliseum for the first time since 1967.

The beginning of the 2025 season represented a massive opportunity for Brett Baty. With Jeff McNeil starting the year on the injured list and the former Mets No. 1 prospect having a fantastic spring training, an opening at second base presented itself. Unfortunately, he has not taken advantage of that. At least yet. That begs the question, can Baty rewrite his story with the franchise, or is it too late?

Wrote a piece on Brett Baty’s slow start to the season. Does he have enough time to carve out a role before Jeff McNeil returns? Check out my thoughts here!
