It’s safe to say the New York Mets’ (24-14) road trip had its ups and downs. It started off with a series loss to the St. Louis Cardinals, including a doubleheader sweep last Sunday. To their credit, the Mets were able to bounce back though, taking two of three over the Arizona Diamondbacks earlier this week. They dropped the middle game of that series but were able to regroup and win the rubber game, thanks to a good outing from Kodai Senga and two home runs from Juan Soto.

The New York Mets (24-14) are off to a very good start, owning a 1 1/2-game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East as play begins Friday. As a result, more than a few players on the team are trending in the right direction when it comes to betting odds for various awards. For the second time in as many weeks, Juan Soto produced in a big way against the Arizona Diamondbacks. On May 1, he had a two-home run game in a 4-2 loss at Citi Field. Six days later, Soto had a similar type of performance at the plate against Arizona. The superstar outfielder led the New York Mets to a 7-1 victory Wednesday, having his second two-home run game in the month of May. He opened the scoring in the top of the sixth inning with a solo home run to deep center field.

Griffin Canning was overlooked by plenty going into this season. After a rough time with the Los Angeles Angels, maybe all he needed was a fresh start. Well, David Stearns certainly felt that way and the decision to bring him in his paying dividends. Canning earned his fifth straight win Monday, helping the New York Mets snap a two-game losing streak with a 5-4 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. His start didn’t begin ideally. Corbin Carroll led the bottom of the first off with a home run.

For the first time this season, the New York Mets (21-11) head on the road following a series loss at home. After winning the opening game on Tuesday, the Arizona Diamondbacks took the next two games in front of the Citi Field crowd. Some good did come out of that though, with Juan Soto hitting two home runs in Thursday’s loss. The Mets will look to get back to their winning ways against the St. Louis Cardinals (14-18), whom they faced last month and swept in a four-game set.
