The local benchmark index is wallowing back under 8,000 points, late on Friday after walking away from a fresh record high on Thursday. ASX smacked after Wall Street sell-off sparked a red day around the world. ALL sectors lower on Friday. Yep... all 11 of them. Small caps led by Spacetalk and Alto MetalsAt 3.30pm in Sydney, the S&P/ASX200 was down 172 points, or 2.1% to 7,942.60.

    This is one of those good news, bad news situations regarding Aussie property. This one's a little more granular than renting bad, owning good. Although, there's more bad news on that front. New data out of PropTrack has national rents unchanged over the last quarter, at $600 per week in June 2024. That's actually the good news, However, the bad news is rents are still up over 9% since this time last year. That's almost $50 bucks a week, according to math.

    Local stocks stumbled out the gates on Wednesday morning and haven't decided which way to go quite yet, after some similar movements overnight on a mixed Wall Street. At a few minutes before midday in Sydney,  The S&P/ASX200 was down just four points to 7,967.00. In some senses, the benchmark milestone of 8,000 could be a few buys away. In another sense we may never see the like again.
