Beatport has added a new genre category dedicated to Brazilian funk. The music platform launched the Brazilian Funk category on Wednesday, 30th April in a bid to "recognise one of Brazil's most dynamic and culturally rich musical exports", it said. Brazilian funk, also sometimes termed baile funk and funk carioca, is a distinct music style that takes tips from hip-hop, electronic music, Miami bass and freestyle.

Jonny Greenwood and Israeli collaborator Dudu Tassa have issued a statement in response to recent cancellations of their gigs, which were brought about after protesters linked to the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) called on promoters to pull the events in solidarity with Palestine. The Radiohead musician and Israeli singer are frequent collaborators, and have faced ongoing criticism of their willingness to perform in Israel amid the nation’s ongoing military assault on Gaza.

André 3000 has released a new instrumental project, titled 7 Piano Sketches. As the name suggests, it features seven tracks that are centred around the piano. Each cut is introduced by himself, or collaborators Emmy Paalman and Fatima Robinson reading the song’s title. There are also occasional samples and vocal effects added across the record. “The original title for it was The Best Worst Rap Album In History,” André 3000 said in a press release.

DJs Kampire and Decay have revealed plans to play a 24-hour b2b set in an effort to raise funds for the building of an arts centre in Kampala, Uganda. The pair will take to the decks at 32° East, which is Uganda's first purpose-built art centre from 6pm EAT on Friday, 23rd May, with the set being streamed live on Mixcloud. It's hoped that funds raised during the set will help fund the completion of the building of 32° East, with $100,000 still needed to finish the work.

Erika de Casier has surprise-released a new album, 'Lifetime'. Featuring 11 tracks, it builds on the trip-hop-influenced sound of past records and follows last year's 'Still' LP. After releasing her last two albums with 4AD, this latest effort sees de Casier return to putting out records via her own Independent Jeep Music imprint.
