In December 2024, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR) condemned El Salvador for violating the human rights of Beatriz, a young woman who was denied a therapeutic abortion in 2013 due to the country’s absolute abortion ban. Mount Holyoke College received the 2025 Library Excellence in Access and Diversity (LEAD) Award from Insight Into Diversity magazine, the largest and oldest diversity and inclusion publication in higher education. This is the second time the College has received the award. The LEAD Award honors academic libraries for their programs and initiatives that encourage and support inclusive excellence and foster a sense of belonging across their campus.

Mount Holyoke College President Danielle R. Holley spoke to New England Public Media (NEPM) about why colleges and universities shouldn’t obey in advance the changes to higher education that President-elect Donald Trump promises, including a crackdown on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. President Holley said many colleges are being advised to hide their DEI programs and LGBTQ+ outreach. However, Mount Holyoke will not be doing so.
