WALLINGFORD - The Wallingford school district is mourning the loss of a Dag Hammarskjold Middle School teacher this week, following his unexpected death over the weekend. Dave Boudreau was a chorus and strings director at the school for 23 years. The announcement of his death came Monday from the superintendent and a moment of silence during this week's school board meeting.

WALLINGFORD - A swimming pool, a performance stage, an additional counseling room, and shared classrooms will be definitive additions to Wallingford's new high school project, school officials determined. Following a series of community forums in April and May, school board members developed a list of " non-negotiable" items that they sought to discuss to see whether or not they should be included as part of their developing one high school plan.

WALLINGFORD - Vuelvo means "I'm back" in Spanish, the perfect name for local restaurateur Favio Pillacela's return to bringing Ecuadorian fare to Wallingford. Vuelvo Cocina y Cantina will open at 100 Quinnipiac Street, once home of vegan eatery Arles & Boggs, with a tentative soft opening in a couple weeks. The menu will feature a variety of traditional Ecuadorian meals along with other Latin American favorites with an Ecuadorian twist.

WALLINGFORD - The 11th annual Gaylord Gauntlet 5k on Saturday has proven to be the Gaylord Hospital's largest largest event yet, selling out for the first time in its history. There will be 1,120 racers, the maximum number of spots available to run the track that day and the highest number of participants that Gaylord has seen. It began with only several hundred in the first year in 2014.

WALLINGFORD - Wallingford's town council has voted to renovate the community pool, five years since it was first closed during the pandemic. In a 6-2 vote, the council approved $10.5 million in money for bonding to pay for a complete demolition and overhaul of the existing pool to a smaller, more versatile design with expanded recreational and event spaces that would be used nearly year-round.
