1 Introduction The exchange between sediment pore water and the water column, that is, benthic fluxes, plays a major role in regulating the water quality and the ecology of aquatic ecosystems (Wang et al., 2020) and contributes to global biogeochemical cycles. The sediment-water interface is a hotspot of organic matter decomposition: nutrients and greenhouse gases produced during the mineralization of organic matter in anoxic pore water diffuses toward the water column.
