The boy’s swimming season is officially underway for Carroll High, as it picked up a strong second-place finish at the Spencer Invite this past Tuesday. The Tigers swimmers did not show any signs of rust in the first meet of the season with a handful of athletes topping the podium and the relay races nearly all going to Carroll High. The one relay that the Tigers did not take first in, they were in second.

The Carroll High girls wrestling team may have gone 0-3 this past Monday at the Monarch Duals hosted by Denison-Schleswig, but it did have some good wins along the way and showed out in each of the three duals. The day started for the Tigers as they took on Audubon in a tightly contested matchup. The Wheelers got the better of Carroll High in the two bouts, although they were hard fought.

The Carroll High girls basketball team used a strong start to build a lead and never let go in its 53-38 win over Kuemper this past Tuesday. The Tigers dominated on all fronts, hitting more shots, rebounding better and suffocating Kuemper on defense. The Knights looked good throughout, but a costly third quarter was enough for Carroll High to run away with a win. Despite the 15-point difference at the end, the game was highly competitive early on. Kuemper even opened with a lead.

The South Central Calhoun boys wrestling team found some success at MVAOCOU, going 2-1 in duals and winning all their matches in exciting fashion. Of the 14 wins the team had between the three duals, all 14 of them came by fall. With the Titans pinning like crazy, wins were bound to happen. The first of those wins came against Cherokee, as SCC came out on top 60-24. In the 11 matches, the Titans picked up seven pins.

The battle for the city was as hard fought as expected with the Kuemper Catholic boys basketball team building a big lead in the first quarter against Carroll High and fending off any Tiger push throughout to come out on top 91-65. The Knights were clicking on both sides of the court, especially in the first quarter. Carroll High played a good game of basketball, but 37 points from Kuemper in the first was enough for the Knights to cruise to a win.

The Carroll High and Kuemper Catholic boys basketball teams open the season against each other tonight at The Castle. With both teams looking to start the season on the right foot, fans are bound to be in for a treat. Only one team can come out on top and prove they are the best in the city. Both teams are coming off up and down seasons of their own. Carroll High went over .500 last season battling in a tough Raccoon River Conference.

The annual battle for the city is on for the Carroll High and Kuemper Catholic girls basketball teams, as they will both be entering this season’s matchup with some momentum. Last year’s rivalry game went in Carroll High’s favor, as it used the momentum from a game one win to take down a rusty Kuemper in its opener. The home crowd also favored Carroll High, as it held home-court advantage.

The South Central Calhoun boys basketball team has a tough matchup right from the jump, hitting the road to take on South Hamilton tonight. The Titans are coming off a productive season that saw them share a piece of the conference title with a 17-6 overall record and only one conference loss. Not only did SCC find success in conference, it also nearly took down Kuemper Catholic in the semifinal round of the district tournament. The Hawks also had a similar season play out in 2023-24.

The season opener did not go the way South Central Calhoun would have liked, as the girls basketball team fell 70-36 to Storm Lake. Following a blowout loss, it is always hard to get confidence back and start moving in the right direction. Although it is still the beginning of the season, the Titans have an opportunity to right the ship and continue to grow and learn how best to approach games going forward. The biggest hurdle SCC will have to overcome this season will be depth.

The boys basketball season is officially underway, and for the IKM-Manning boys basketball team, the conference season is also underway. The Wolves start their season on the road against conference opponent Tri-Center tonight. The Trojans actually gave IKM-Manning its first win a season ago, as the Wolves hosted them in what turned out to be an upset win. The Wolves pulled out a 64-58 win thanks to home-court advantage and the help of a near double-double from senior Lane Sams.
