As much as 1 to 2 inches of rain fell across the Metro region, however some cities received nearly 3 to 4 inches of rain!Large hail was limited to Sandy Creek in Fayette county, where ping pong ball size hail (1.5 inch diameter) fell in the River Crest neighborhood in Tyrone.

    ATLANTA — A strong area of low pressure is developing over the Midwest today, and this low will push a cold front into North Georgia later tonight. The cold front will produce numerous thunderstorms late this evening into early tomorrow morning, some of which may be strong to severe. As a result, the Storm Prediction Center has outlined an area of *ENHANCED RISK* for severe storms in Northwest Georgia -- including the north and western portions of Metro Atlanta.

    Rain and thunderstorms return to the forecast this weekend, beginning early Saturday morning. While it won’t rain every hour of the day Saturday and Sunday, do be aware that a cold front will try to push a series of thunderstorm clusters into North Georgia Saturday morning, with more clusters potentially arriving on Sunday. A line of heavy rain and thunderstorms will move south from the North Georgia Mountains through Metro Atlanta Saturday morning, impacting the Metro area between 5am and 11am.
