Question : Does anybody know how many feral cats there are on Oahu ? Does anybody count them ? Sadly, we see cats that have been hit by cars, which upsets my children. There is a colony in our area, and the lady who feeds them does keep track of them and gets them fixed, but she has no idea how many cats there are on the rest of the island.

Question: Regarding the SAVE Act, which would require proof of U.S. citizenship before someone can register to vote, if this passes would a current Hawaii REAL ID be enough proof? I don’t have a passport. Also, would this affect people already registered to vote? Answer: No and no, although updating an existing voter registration apparently would trigger the demand for in-person proof of U.S. citizenship, according to news reports.

Question : Auwe ! I wanted to apply for my Social Security online but couldn’t create an online account (technical difficulties ). I would call even if I had to stay on hold for hours, but what’s the point if they’re not letting people file over the phone ?

Question : When will the Ward Village to Kewalo Basin pedestrian overpass open ? I read online it was supposed to have opened in January, but I just went there and it’s still closed. Answer : “The Ala Moana Pedestrian Bridge opening has been postponed to May 2025. During field applications the crews needed to re adjust the process for the application of the skid-resistant coating to ensure that the surface of the bridge would be safe for pedestrians in wet conditions.

Question : I saw on the news that they are finally reopening Ho ‘omaluhia fishing and you make a reservation online. Is that required ? I can’t plan too far ahead with my grandkids. Answer : No, and to be clear, you can’t go fishing just yet—opening day will be May 7 ; the online reservation system will open April 23, according to Hono lulu’s Department of Parks and Recreation.

Question : I received an unusual email, supposedly from the IRS. I think it is a scam, but since usually I have filed my taxes by now, I’m not sure if it’s something they send to procrastinators and that’s why I’ve never seen it before. It told me to scan a QR code in the email because they need to update my tax records. I didn’t. Is anybody else getting this ? Answer : This email is a scam, versions of which are listed year after year on the IRS list of Dirty Dozen tax schemes.
