Manulife (MFC-T) president and CEO Roy Gori has announced he will retire effective May 8, 2025, to be succeeded by Phil Witherington. Gori has been with the financial services company since 2017. After he steps down, Gori will serve as an advisor through Aug. 31 to support the transition. “Roy is an inspiring, values-driven leader who has transformed the company and delivered outstanding results over his tenure,” Don Lindsay, chair of the board of Manulife, said in the announcement.

In the latest chapter during a year of upheaval, financially troubled Slate Office REIT (SOT.UN-T) has a new chair of its board of trustees, with George Armoyan taking over from Sam Altman, and Shant Poladian also joining the board of a trust he knows well. Armoyan steps into the chair’s role from his previous position as trustee. Poladian, who was the CEO of FAM REIT (the predecessor to Slate Office REIT) moves onto the board into Altman’s former seat as Altman also resigns as a trustee.

TAS acquired a 290,000-square-foot industrial building at 1500 Birchmount Rd. in Scarborough, Ont. in a receivership sale in October, but the site will offer more than what are generally considered industrial uses when it’s ready for new tenants late next summer. Ernst & Young (EY) was the receiver for the building and its 21.1-acre site, which TAS had been tracking for quite a while, chief investment officer Khan Tran told RENX.

Mario Barrafato will retire in the New Year as chief financial officer at Choice Properties REIT (CHP.UN-T), to be succeeded by Erin Johnston, the trust's current senior vice-president of finance. The move is effective March 1, 2025. Barrafato worked at Molson Inc. and KPMG earlier in his career before joining Dream Office REIT, where he later became CFO.
