It looks as if we might expect some nonsense this year from the folks at the Document Foundation, who it appears might be on the road to claiming that this year will mark LibreOffice’s 40th birthday. If so, I’m here to tell you it isn’t true. So far, I haven’t personally seen this claim coming out of the mouths of anyone connected to the project itself, but I have seen it in a headline on an article by Liam Proven that appeared last week in The Register.

Serpent OS, a Linux distro that just recently reached alpha, announced on Friday that it’s changing its name to AerynOS. In most cases, that would be the story — a distro in the birthing stage is changing its name — but in this case the story is the guy behind the distro, which is Ikey Doherty. There’s been a long queue forming for more than three years for the first stable release of Serpent OS, mainly because it’s the brainchild of Doherty.

Nine days after becoming Trump’s new FCC Chair, Brendan Carr has declared war on noncommercial broadcasters. We’re talking about those FM stations that are largely crowded into the lower end of the FM dial, between 87.9 and 91.9 MHz, as well as noncommercial television stations. While Carr’s opening salvo was carefully aimed at NPR, PBS, and their affiliates — it’s also given other broadcasters with noncommercial licenses the jitters.
