On the top floor of a 1960s strip mall, The Alley Restaurant at Aiea Bowl doesn’t have your average bowling alley food. Known for being ridiculously good, the food is a mix of American and Hawaii cuisine with diverse flavors, such as kalbi short ribs, hamburgers, loco moco and mahi-mahi. The restaurant is famous for its award-winning oxtail soup, a Hawaii comfort food, served steaming with shiitake mushrooms, peanuts and baby bok choy.

Every year, Florida professor Stephen “Dr. Beach” Leatherman uses 50 criteria, such as sand softness, number of sunny days, water color, smell and trash, to rate 650 public beaches on a sliding scale of 1 to 5. Disney’s record-breaking, live-action remake “Lilo & Stitch” was filmed on the island of Oahu, and one of Hawaii’s iconic resorts took center stage in the hit movie, playing a big role in key scenes. It’s where Lilo and Stitch lounge by the pool and where the aliens Jumba and Pleakley stay while formulating their plans to capture Stitch. It isn’t the Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, although it is also located on Oahu.
