The vatican announced Latin America’s first pontiff died at 7:35 a.m. local time Monday morning.A spokesman says Francis spent his entire life dedicated to the service his Church. The Pope was admitted to hospital in February for a respiratory crisis that developed into double pneumonia. He spent 38 days there. Just one day before his death, Pope Francis delivered his annual Easter blessing at the Vatican to the tens of thousands gathered in St. Peter’s square.

    Share on The federal election is a week away and it appears Canadians are eager to vote. Dugald Maudsley with Elections Canada says there’s was a record turn out at advance voting on Friday. “We had the most people voting on the first day of advance polls, two million people and that compares to one 1.2 million on the first day of advance polls in the previous election in 2021, so that’s a big increase,” said Maudsely.

    Share on Toronto and other Ontario cities are filling more potholes than usual this spring after several cycles of freezing and thawing. Data from the city of Toronto shows crews filled more than 108,000 potholes so far this year, compared to 95,000 during the same time frame last year. Teresa Di Felice with the Canadian Automobile Association says potholes can be particularly damaging to vehicles.

    Share on This year’s 24th edition of the Tribeca Festival will feature a medley of music stars including Billy Joel. The annual New York festival, which in 2022 dropped “Film” from its name, has just unveiled the lineup. It kicks off with the premiere of “Billy Joel: And So It Goes,” a two-part documentary on the 75-year-old singer. Also premiering at Tribeca will be a visual album from Miley Cyrus and concert documentaries from Eddie Vedder and Depeche Mode. The Tribeca Festival runs June 4-15.

    Share on California governor Gavin Newsom launched a tourism campaign this week, urging Canadians to visit his state amid a drastic drop in tourism to the US. He said last year two million Canadians visited his state. Earlier this month, the governor called for long standing trade partners to exempt California from tariffs they may enact in response to Donald Trump’s tariffs. It’s the latest in a series of olive branches delivered to Canadians by US lawmakers.
