Word on Fire will partner with The Catholic University of America to offer a new Master's program dedicated to forming "the next generation of Catholic evangelists and cultural leaders." The Master of Arts in Evangelization & Culture program will blend "intellectual formation with pastoral formation," said a release from Word on Fire. Courses will be taught live online by faculty in Catholic Univeristy's school of theology as well as by fellows in the Word on Fire Institute.

The Supreme Court ruled 9-0 on Thursday, June 5, that the state of Wisconsin had discriminated when it refused to provide a tax exemption to Catholic Charities Bureau of the Diocese of Superior. "The Court was clear: no faith should be treated differently based on how it practices charity or serves those in need," Nick Reaves, senior counsel at Becket, told Aleteia. Becket is a law firm that was representing Catholic Charities in the case.

The first Friday in June in the United States is known as National Donut Day — and it is more than just a day for companies to offer deals on delicious pastries to get people in stores. National Donut Day's origins are actually in World War I, and involved hungry and homesick soldiers from the United States. To assist with the war effort, the Salvation Army — a Protestant church and charitable organization — sent about 250 women to France to boost the morale of the soldiers fighting there.

Voluntary euthanasia is an affront to human dignity and so-called safeguards are anything but, said the Maltese Episcopal Conference in a letter that was read across the country this past weekend. The letter, titled “Compassion and Care Until the End," was authored on May 31 and was published on June 4. It was written in response to the Maltese government's recent White Paper concerning the legality of assisted suicide in the country.

The Vatican announced earlier this week the new bishops of the dioceses of Pittsburgh and Houma-Thibodaux. On Wednesday, June 4, Bishop Mark A. Eckman was named the new bishop of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Eckman, 66, is presently an auxiliary bishop of the diocese. Eckman replaces Bishop David A. Zubik, 75, who submitted his resignation on his 75th birthday last September.
