China and 32 other countries signed the Convention on the Establishment of the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed) in Hong Kong on Friday, creating an international legal body for alternative dispute resolution. The signing ceremony drew approximately 400 representatives from 85 countries and 20 international organizations, with the signatories becoming founding members.

Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan called for the extension and expansion of a ceasefire in Myanmar on Sunday, during an ASEAN meeting in Kuala Lumpur. The ceasefire was initially declared following a 7.7 magnitude earthquake in March 2025 that resulted in over 3,300 deaths, 4,500 injuries, and 220 missing. ASEAN has faced challenges in mediating the conflict since the military coup that began Myanmar’s civil war in February 2021.

Army-backed militias, collectively known as the “Wazalendo,” committed widespread human rights abuses against civilians in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), according to Human Rights Watch (HRW) on Friday. HRW accused the Congolese military (FARDC) of collaborating with the militias in the South Kivu province and urged Congolese authorities to sever ties with the coalition.

Cornell Law School released its annual American Bar Association 509 report for the J.D. Class of 2027 on Dec. 16, revealing the demographics of the first class since the Supreme Court’s June 2023 decision to end race-based affirmative action. The report’s data showed that total people of color enrollment for the Class of 2027 was approximately 37 percent, increasing by approximately six percent compared to the Class of 2026.
