MODESTO — On one of the biggest stages most had ever stepped foot on, high school baseball stars from across Stanislaus County put on performances to remember Saturday afternoon. At the 33rd annual Modesto Sunrise Rotary All-Star Game at John Thurman Field, home of the Modesto Nuts, the Blue squad staged a thunderous comeback to down the Gold team by a 9-8 score.

MERCED — A handful of local football players donned helmets and pads for the final time as members of their respective high schools on Saturday at the second annual Merced County All-Star Football Classic at Golden Valley High School. Though the North team that featured players from Turlock and Pitman fell by a 19-13 score, each had uniquely impressive individual performances as they showcased their talents to a new, Merced-heavy audience in the grandstands.

MERCED — Gracious for their invitation to the Girls Flag Football All-Star Game at Golden Valley High School in Merced on Saturday despite not being from Merced County, senior players from Turlock and Pitman made their presence known to the rest of the region. Defensively, Turlock’s Kealani Solis-Coelho and Karley Wool and Pitman’s Elexi Pulido helped the North team defeat the South by a 35-30 score. Serving as head coach for the North squad was Bulldogs head coach Aaron King.

Friday was the start of the 2025 College World Series in Omaha, Neb., and of the eight teams vying for the national title is Arizona, who have a face familiar to many locals on their roster. With the Wildcats for this run is Dom Rodriguez, a 2021 graduate of Turlock High School. The junior outfielder already appeared as a pinch-hitter in the club’s 7-4 loss to No. 11 Coastal Carolina in the opening game.
