I have always loved the concept of What If…? It’s a tradition that goes back decades for Marvel Comics, and I never imagined having an animated show based on the series. Luckily, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been around for so long, created so many different characters, and carved out all these pockets of their universe that the What If…? concept has finally been viable for an anthology TV series. Some may dismiss it because the plots don’t affect the main continuity, but when a What If…?

After a short wait, the second and final installment of the Watchmen animated movies is here. Watchmen: Chapter I was released this past August, so there wasn’t even much of a wait for the conclusion. Chapter I covered the first five issues of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ 1986 graphic novel while Chapter II adapts the next seven. They could have easily called these “Part 1” and “Part 2” as the word “chapter” doesn’t correspond to anything specifically.

Previously – Despite gaining more public support than Lois Lane, Lex Luthor grew increasingly unhinged. He had been following the plan of his partner, Amanda McCoy, but all he wanted was revenge on Clark Kent and Lois Lane. With the help of his top scientist, Milton Fine, Luthor stole John Henry Irons’ Steel suit. Lois, believing she could turn Amanda against Luthor, told her about the unfortunate story of a previous partner/girlfriend of Luthor’s.

Previously – Taking the advice of his associate, Amanda McCoy, Lex Luthor cleans up and appears on Gordon Godfrey’s show to repair his reputation. He challenges Lois Lane to a debate at a later airing of the show. The debate gets heated, but it ends abruptly when Clark has to become quickly Superman and fight an out of control Steel armor. Superman saves John Henry Irons, but his armor falls into the hands of Luthor’s top brain, Milton Fine.
