The Greenwood boys finished second with 97 points during the Districts 3-4A/4-4A Area Track and Field Meet, Thursday at Mustang Bowl in Andrews. Canyon won both the boys title with 146 points and the girls title with 118 points. The Andrews girls placed second (94). The Greenwood boys were led by Dylan Payton, who won the 300-meter hurdles (38.88 seconds) and placed second in the long jump (21 feet, 7.75 inches).

Midland High senior Joey Almanza showed how tough of a runner he was at the District 2-6A Track and Field Meet last week. Almanza ran the meet's three longest races and reached the podium in all three at Memorial Stadium. Almanza won both the 3,200 meters (9 minutes, 48.63 seconds) and 1,600 with a personal-best time (4:30.46), while he placed third in the 800 with a personal record time of 1:57.49. "It was definitely a shocker," Almanza said.
