Changes over the 1930s Over the 4-year period from 1929 to 1933, annual investment in all areas of the US economy plummeted. For the five broad capital sectors used in this study (Figure 4), the decreases in annual investment over 4 years varied between 62% and 83%. The greatest decrease was in the residential sector, which actually was part of a longer-term decline from a peak in investment in 1926 (Supporting Information , sheet ).
