It's a startling number, but perhaps it shouldn't be, given the money that's already been poured into AI during the last several years by major companies. Microsoft is already ranked No. 1 among all companies for AI Readiness by Index42.com. Only Amazon employs more data scientists: Blackrock is also at the top of its field here, ranked No. 1 out of 17 financial services companies ranked by Index42.

Apple unveiled Siri, its voice-driven virtual assistant, 12 years ago. That’s an eon in tech, but Siri has scarcely improved. As other manifestations of AI have become markedly useful during the last few years, Siri has remained an unimproved error-prone utility. As I looked for commentary on why this is the case, I was met with lots of half-baked answers about privacy and the fact that Apple has focused elsewhere. That much is clear.
