NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The Norfolk Animal Care Center is throwing a Shelter Spring Fling and is inviting everyone to enjoy “wagging tails, community connections and adorable pets.” The spring fling will be held on Saturday, May 17, from noon to 4 p.m. at Afterglow Brewing, located at 2230 Bowdens Ferry Road, Suite 600. Nearly a dozen local animal shelters and rescues from across Hampton Roads will be on hand to share resources, promote pet adoption and celebrate the bond between humans and pets.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia Beach police are conducting a death investigation after a woman was found dead on Oleander Circle Saturday afternoon. Virginia Beach Emergency Medical Services received a call for service in the 600 block of Oleander Circle at approximately 12:20 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found one woman deceased on scene. The investigation is currently active and ongoing. There is no known threat to the community.

Update: Thomas Thompson has been safely located, according to Virginia State Police. NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — The Virginia State Police has issued a senior alert on behalf of the Newport News Police Department for a missing and endangered 69-year-old man. Thomas Thompson was last seen in the 1100 block of Hampton Avenue around 11:30 a.m. He stands at 5-feet, 7-inch tall and weighs approximately 145 pounds. He has blue eyes and what is described as gray, scruffy hair.
