PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A Portsmouth man who shot a police officer in Churchland in early March was denied bond on Wednesday. During the bond hearing, the policeman who was shot was identified as Officer Rashaad Banks and he recounted the shooting incident. In his testimony, Banks said he responded to a domestic hostage situation on the evening of March 10 at the Henley Townhomes. He proceeded to detail his encounter with Rakeem Christian, 26.

CHINCOTEAGUE, Va. (WAVY) — Chincoteague Mayor Denise Bowden was severely injured while letting a herd of horses out of a corral on Friday. According to the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company, Bowden’s leg was badly injured after “letting the southern herd out of the corral.” She was taken to Shock Trauma in Baltimore, where she underwent surgery.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A multi-vehicle crash in Virginia Beach sent one person to the hospital on Sunday afternoon. The Virginia Beach Fire Department, Virginia Beach Emergency Medical Services, Virginia Beach Rescue, and Virginia Beach Police Department responded to the 5300 block of Indian River Road at approximately 1:10 p.m. for a report of a multi-vehicle crash with an entrapment. Crews arrived to find three vehicles involved in the accident with one on its side.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — A man has died after a shooting in Chesapeake on Sunday afternoon, according to police. Chesapeake police officers responded to a residence in the 2300 block of Angler Lane at approximately 2:15 p.m. for a report of a male being shot. Upon arrival, officers found the man that was shot and had him transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The shooter is detained for the investigation. Police said the incident is an active investigation.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — An investigation is underway after a body was found in water on Sunday, according to the Chesapeake Police Department. Chesapeake police officers were dispatched to the area of Woodlake Drive and Sentinel Drive at approximately 2:15 p.m. for a report of a dead body in a pond near the intersection. This is in the vicinity of the Kroger grocery store near Battlefield Boulevard North and I-64. The officers located the body. The scene is an active investigation.
