On June 24, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to a fatal collision on NC 12 near Lela Court in Waves at approximately 2:45 p.m.A woman was driving south on NC 12 when she crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a northbound vehicle. 90-year-old John Casey was a passenger in the vehicle and wasn’t wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. He was taken to the hospital, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Motorists experienced delays on I-664 in Chesapeake near Joliff Road due to a vehicle fire. Firefighters temporarily shut the interstate for safety precautions while they put out the fire, according to Lt. Shaun Williams with the Chesapeake Fire Department. The occupants safely evacuated the vehicle before firefighters arrived. All south lanes were closed but have since reopened. VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Four people have been displaced, and one cat is dead after a fire at an apartment building in Virginia Beach on Thursday afternoon. According to the Virginia Beach Fire Department, crews were dispatched to a reported multi-unit structure fire in the 3800 block of Keelboat Circle at approximately 3:25 p.m.Upon arrival, they observed heavy smoke coming from the two-story apartment building.

RICHMOND, Va. (WAVY) — As the swim season kicks off, drowning fatalities have increased in children under the age of five in Virginia. According to the Virginia Department of Health’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, six children have tragically died in swimming pool drownings since Memorial Day in the state. The deaths exceed the total number of drowning fatalities for young children in each of the last three years in Virginia.
