NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — In honor of the 81st anniversary of D-Day, the MacArthur Memorial will hold a free screening of Saving Private Ryan on Friday. Dr. Tim Orr, Associate Professor of History at Old Dominion University, will present the 1998 film and discuss D-Day in the context of “reel” vs “real” history. The film is directed by Steven Spielberg and stars Tom Hanks and Matt Damon.

(WAVY) — The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services partnered up with Hazel Health to provide virtual mental health care services to over 400,000 K-12 students in the state. Any student enrolled within participating districts can access one of Hazel’s on-staff, licensed therapists before, during and after the school day. Hazel services are also available to students throughout the summer break.

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — The Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue is offering free smoke alarms to help protect the community. As part of a free smoke alarm program, firefighters will furnish and install smoke alarms or replace batteries for any homeowners in Hampton. A working smoke alarm will immediately notify a resident of smoke or fire in their home.

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — The City of Hampton released a statement Saturday rejecting its designation as a “sanctuary jurisdiction” by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. In the statement, Hampton referred to the classification as “inaccurate and unsupported by city policy or practice.” The city added it has contacted regional officials to request an explanation.
