This article introduces a three-part series: Saving Philanthropy: Creating Rules of the Road for Donor-Advised Funds. Coproduced by the Charity Reform Initiative of the Institute for Policy Studies and NPQ, this series examines how to facilitate giving while ensuring donor funds reach operating nonprofits in an efficient and effective manner. Every year, more donor dollars are diverted to donor-advised funds (DAFs), while nonprofits on the ground struggle harder for donations.

Rainy end to the weekKeep the umbrella handy Friday as we’ll see occasional showers and isolated thunder. The rain should stay south of the area over Father’s Day weekend, but we’ll see more sun than clouds. Long term models are advertising steamy and sometimes stormy weather next week with highs in the mid to upper 80s. A couple of dry days before weekend rainAfter much needed rain the past couple of days we’ll dry out before the next chance. Look for partly sunny skies Thursday and Friday with highs around 80 but we have a chance of showers Saturday afternoon and a chance of thunderstorms Sunday afternoon. In the extended, we should be dry all of next week with highs warming into the mid 80s. Published: Jun. 4, 2025 at 3:57 PM CDT|Updated: seconds agoShare on X (formerly Twitter)

Strong storms possible Tuesday eveningA slow-moving cold front will trigger several rounds of showers and storms beginning late Tuesday afternoon and evening. There’s a small chance for an isolated strong to severe storm but nothing widespread. Most of the rain will fall from Tuesday evening continuing until late morning Wednesday. We should be dry Wednesday afternoon and Thursday with another round of showers Friday.

Starting this tax season, Trump and Musk’s IRS cuts will cost middle class taxpayers a lot more than they save. The Trump administration and Elon Musk’s DOGE have begun dismantling the Internal Revenue Service, beginning with 6,700 layoffs. Their stated plan is to cut half of the agency’s workforce. Their biggest cuts appear to be in the Large Business and International division, which audits wealthy individuals and companies with more than $10 million in assets.
