KUCHING (May 28): Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) is sending two Peninsular-based lawyers to represent it in the Kuching High Court in an ongoing legal dispute with Sarawak Petroleum Berhad’s (Petros) over a RM7.95 million Maybank Islamic bank guarantee. The legal team, comprising Cyrus Vimala Kumar Vincent Das and Khoo Guan Huat, has applied to the Kuching High Court for ad hoc licences to appear.

KUCHING (May 28): Police have arrested a 54-year-old Lamborghini driver in connection with the death of a pedestrian at Jalan Airport here yesterday evening. In a statement today, Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the probe is being carried out under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for committing death by dangerous or reckless driving. The Section provides for five to 10 years in jail and a fine of between RM20,000 and RM50,000 upon conviction.

KUCHING (May 27): Both state and federal civil servants in Sarawak will have an additional public holiday on June 4. A notice from State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki dated yesterday stated that the additional holiday is to replace overlapping public holidays on June 2.

Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong said she was deeply disappointed and concerned by the ruling, stating her question was “legitimate”.
