    The current FIH Pro League title holders, Australia unpicked a changed Ireland side in their second encounter in Antwerp. After the sides went into the quarter one break locked at 1-1, with Ireland’s Lee Cole scoring from a penalty corner, Australia pushed on, scoring five unanswered goals to storm to a seventh FIH Pro League win. An early penalty corner after just over one minute gave Australia the chance to pick up from where they left off in the teams’ previous tie.

    Lahinch's Áine Donegan and Kirkistown Castle's Beth Coulter have been selected to represent Great Britain and Ireland at the Vagliano Trophy. The Irish pair have once again been confirmed as part of the team for the competition, which gets underway in the Netherlands later this month. Both players were part of the historic 10½-9½ Curtis Cup success at Sunningdale in September, where GB & I won for the first time in eight years.

    Brian Barry-Murphy has been appointed head coach of Cardiff City. The 46-year-old Corkman will leave his coaching role at Leicester City to take charge at the Bluebirds who were relegated to League One last season. Son of Cork GAA great Jimmy, Barry-Murphy has previously managed Rochdale and worked as youth coach with Manchester City. Current City academy coach Lee Riley has been named as Barry-Murphy's assistant - the pair previously worked together at Rochdale.

    Wicklow came back from eight points down midway through the second half in their Tailteann Cup quarter-final to shock Westmeath in Aughrim. Dean Healy scored the winner for Wicklow, cutting inside the Westmeath cover to kick a point from inside the arc. It ignited rapturous scenes at Echelon Park as home supporters raced onto the pitch to celebrate. Westmeath, winners of the inaugural Tailteann Cup in 2022, had looked the most likely winners throughout.

    Leo Cullen has named his Leinster side to take on the Vodacom Bulls in the BKT United Rugby Championship Grand Final on Saturday at Croke Park (kick-off, 5pm). There are two changes to the starting XV from Saturday's 37-19 win over Glasgow Warriors, with Garry Ringrose and Josh van der Flier returning. Jack Conan captains the team once again, with Ryan Baird lining up at blindside flanker with van der Flier on the other side.
