With this in mind, in 2007 Hugo Chávez initiated Alba Movements as a network of grassroots organizations under the auspices of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America [ALBA]. La Minka collective is based in a multi-use cultural space near Miraflores presidential palace in the west of Caracas. Outside the building, a former printing press, is a colorful mural covering its three-story facade that represents different aspects of Venezuela’s popular history. Inside there is an array of rooms dedicated to teaching, theater, and music, along with a radio studio and a community kitchen. “Minka” or “Minga” is a Kichwa word meaning community work.

The new lithium mining project between Germany and Serbia appears to be part of an ongoing imperialist strategy to compete with China. The Serbian people are rising to reject this project and the EU's interference in their nation and fight to protect their environment. On the 18th of June 2024, Chancellor Olaf Scholz of Germany visited Serbia. The two countries signed an agreement to give mining permits to German industrialists in the lithium-rich region of Jadar in Western Serbia.

On Friday, August 30, the Venezuelan government announced that there was an attack on the national electricity system that affected the entire country. According to the Ministry of Communication, the attacks were recorded at around 4 am and affected all 24 Venezuelan states, including the capital, Caracas.

On August 25, millions of Venezuelans took to the polls to decide which local projects would receive government funding in the year’s second National Popular Consultation. The first consultation took place, with ample participation, in April 2024. Sunday’s vote was held across 4,505 communal circuits throughout Venezuela. Venezuelanalysis and photographer Rome Arrieche documented the selection process at El Panal, a robust urban commune in the working-class 23 de Enero barrio.
