In February 2025, Antarctic and Arctic sea ice both hit [new lows https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2025/mar/06/global-sea-ice-hit-all-time-minimum-in-february-scientists-say], scientists reported. Arctic sea ice, in its winter phase, has just hit its maximum extent. It is the lowest in the 47-year satellite record.
