Fine Gael and Fianna Fail negotiators have identified housing, justice and disability services as the key battlegrounds for government formation talks as discussions are set to intensify this week. Simon Harris, the taoiseach, has said that he is “not proud” of his government’s record on disability services and that he will require a guarantee on the delivery of “structural” change to this “siloed” system.

On Thursday evening in a manor hotel in Edinburgh, Scotland, the two men set to decide Ireland’s fate for the next five years met for a pint.
