San Diego Day Hikers is one of the region’s most popular hiking groups on the social gathering website Meetup.com. But it has a pretty interesting past. “The group started in the 1980s as a monthly hike, usually on the last Saturday, led by a professor from SDSU, and loosely affiliated with the Libertarian Party of San Diego,” says Philip Erdelsky, the group’s current leader.

KPBS is doing a story about how people get their news and how that impacts their views of government and politics. We want to know from you how you get your news--the more detail the better! And be honest, we won't be offended if you don't include KPBS.

I know, I know… It seems nuts to have to think about summer activities when it still feels like we’re fresh off winter break. But, as in-the-know parents will confirm, March and April are camp planning months. Now is when online registration for most camps opens, and some are so popular that you’ll need to train your fingers to click lightning-fast to secure a spot. It seemed like every Sunday, Chenais Siry’s husband would spend hours organizing the garage, yet it never actually got any cleaner. The Sirys had been living in their five-bedroom Rancho Santa Fe home for four years, and already the garage was filled with everything that comes with having three young kids, two active parents, and a dog: bikes, skis, snowboards, strollers, soccer gear, and so on. “That’s always a tricky thing,” Bates tells Runner’s World. “My go-to to get myself to sleep is one to two glasses of wine the night before a race.”Sacrilege, right? But Bates says the wine chills her out and helps her fall asleep faster. “Now, falling asleep is one thing and staying asleep is another,” Bates says. She suffers from the same tick that afflicts many runners who are worried about missing their alarms: She wakes up every half an hour to check the time and make sure she hasn’t overslept.

Really proud of this project I edited and coordinated for @KPBSnews. We looked at whether incivility has increased at county supervisor meetings and undertook a unique study to actually quantify the change. https://t.co/a9RkRYenTB

I absolutely loved meeting and interviewing Justine Galloway, the very inspiring runner who handles runner's dystonia by running backwards. Check out my story about her in @outsidemagazine. https://t.co/2toFJZbkRL
