Among the stranger exhibits on display at the Albuquerque Foundation, a new museum of ceramics in Sintra, some 30 kilometres northwest of Lisbon, is a rare tureen in the form of a large crab. With its left claw raised to its mouth and its protruding beady eyes, it’s disconcertingly lifelike even if the green enamel patterning on its otherwise rust-red shell make no pretence to realism.
