Three years ago, coming to Temple was meant to be a temporary stepping stone to better things. I never imagined that it could actually be the better thing. My post-high school experience was nothing short of chaotic. After finishing my freshman year at a different college and a subsequent COVID-induced gap year, I applied to Temple on a whim at the end of July 2022 after my previous school ran out of on-campus housing.

Each day begins with primer. Then foundation, two different concealers, bronzer, contour, blush number one — then another concealer. I quickly powder my under eyes so they don’t crease, then spritz some finishing spray — even though it’s far from finished. Next is eyebrow gel, eyelid primer, then a medley of neutral eyeshadows from three palettes. I carefully curl my eyelashes, then hold my breath and steady my hand for winged eyeliner. The finish line is in sight.
