IN this edition of nostalgia, we are looking back at at shops and businesses on Fisher Street in Carlisle throughout the years. Some of the more famed buildings include the Fisher Street Presbyterian Chapel. The Quaker meeting house, which was at first in Abbey Close from 1653 to c.1660; re-established in the city in 1693 but a new meeting house on Fisher Street, was built 1702 and replaced by one on another site in Fisher Street in 1776.

9 1/1 IN this edition of nostalgia, we are looking back at Saint John's Precinct shopping area in Workington. These pictures show Saint John's Precinct shopping area before its re-development in 2004. The Saint John's Precinct was built in the early 1970s on the site of the old swimming baths, it had the typical architecture which was the same that could be found anywhere in the UK at that time.

IN this edition of nostalgia, we are looking back at King Street in Whitehaven throughout the years. King Street had started its development before the death of Christopher Lowther in 1644 but was then known as Custom House Street. By the time his son, Sir John Lowther, named the street King Street in 1687, James II was on the throne. By 1700, the street was completely occupied and most of the side furthest from the sea had been for over 15 years. At street level, many show modern shop-fronts.

Tesco in Whitehaven (Image: Google) TESCO in Whitehaven will close earlier on during the week to allow for store renovations. The renovations taking place will include implementing new electric heating. A Tesco spokesperson said: “Our Whitehaven Superstore is having a new electric heating system installed which will improve the heating and ventilation for our customers and colleagues as well as reduce the store’s carbon emissions.

The adventure playpark has been installed in the area known as the 'Stiles'. Carlisle’s Trinity School was formed in 1968, this came as the movement towards comprehensive schools took shape in the city. This formation occurred when Carlisle Grammar School joined with The Margaret Sewell School (for girls) and The Creighton School (for boys), to become Trinity School – a Church of England Comprehensive School.
