    Dear EditorWe concur with the author’s grave predictions regarding six-month projected mortality for Gaza under various scenarios of ceasefire timing and severity of infectious disease epidemic. However, beyond this short-term death-toll, near complete destruction of healthcare infrastructure means that the additional burden of avoidable mortality will be sizeable and sustained in relation to failed management of treatable chronic diseases and malignancies.

Apparently, such a suggestion is uncultured to some, but there are a range of other vegan options available. Brand owners have certainly noticed the uptick in consumer demand for vegan options, and that is reflected at the UK and EU Intellectual Property Offices (UKIPO and EUIPO) which receive a steady stream of trade mark applications for vegan products.

    Following the UK's separation from the Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO) on 31 December 2020, a transition period has been in place allowing attorneys based in the European Union to continue to act as professional representatives for duplicated UK registrations. The transitional period of three years comes to an end on 31 December 2023. From 1 January 2024, the Controller of Plant Variety Rights in the UK may ask for a UK address for service (AFS).
