TACLOBAN CITY—Massive flooding affected several areas in Eastern Visayas and Sorsogon in the Bicol region due to nonstop rains since Feb. 9 that were spawned by a shear line. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council placed the provinces of Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran, Northern Samar, and Leyte under a red alert category due to heavy rainfall that could trigger floods and landslides.

SANTA MAGDALENA, SORSOGON — Classes on Monday, Dec. 2, in some parts of Sorsogon were suspended due to heavy rains caused by the shear line, authorities said on Sunday. In Sorsogon City, Mayor Ma. Ester Hamor ordered the suspension of classes from kindergarten to secondary levels in both private and public schools. Hamor advised her constituents to “stay indoors” and “avoid unnecessary travel” as the bad weather continues.
