For several reasons, public servants addressing climate change occasionally cite data from private firms that analyse the risks of severe weather damaging buildings, roads, and other infrastructure across both large and small geographic areas. First, those firms offer data at a level of granularity, sometimes down to specific addresses, that is unavailable mainly from federally funded and produced climate data. Second, some of those firms offer easy-to-understand risk scores.
