OpenAI announced on Monday the release of GPT-4.1, the newest successor to its GPT-4o series of AI language models. According to OpenAI, GPT-4.1 excels at instruction following, coding, and long-context processing. The GPT-4.1 large language model brings improved features and enhanced coding capabilities to the next generation GPT-4o model lineup. The GPT-4o series includes the GPT-4.1 mini and GPT-4.1 nano models. OpenAI confirmed the mini will receive supervised fine-tuning support.

Earth Species Project researchers have created NatureLM-audio, an AI audio language foundation model that can use animal vocalizations to identify various aspects of communication and behavior. NatureLM-audio is the first large audio-language model designed specifically to analyze animal sounds.

AI drug design and development company Isomorphic Labs announced on Monday that it raised $600 million in its first external funding round. Thrive Capital led the financing round with participation from Google’s GV, and follow-on capital from Alphabet, its parent company and an existing investor. Isomorphic Labs described plans to use the funds to drive biomedical advances through its AI drug design engine.
