The Katandra Acapella Women’s Choir meets regularly in Kiama, offering a great social outing as well as the opportunity to harmonise. They also arrange events to raise money for charities such as the Children’s Medical Research organisation, and this year, they’re doing it again with South Coast Sings and The Big Swing. With the Budget due tonight, there are talks of plans to reduce a placement payment, to make up some of the costs of working for free to gain a university certification. University of Wollongong surveyed 600 Australasian students and said the results were alarming, with food insecurity being experienced by 77 per cent of students during placement, with 29 per cent saying they regularly skipped meals and experienced hunger due to poverty.
