January 12th, 2025 4:18 runtime When it comes to an all-purpose optic for your Springfield Armory SAINT 5.56 or .308, in my opinion the “short dot” scope is king.

You may remember my initial review of the CMMG Mk 47 in August of 2020, which was a lesson for yours truly in not prejudging rifles. What I didn’t say in the review was how said Mk 47 even came into our hands. I had not touched a CMMG product in the better part of a decade and was I will say “underwhelmed” with that previous foray. CMMG didn’t suck in 2013, but they also didn’t exactly blow my socks off. Specifically, it’s the customer service experience when your gun no longer goes bang. Two guns in the last two months have failed me either under 500 rounds, or straight out of the box. Which is not exactly a great look for quality control across the industry right now. I should point out, that both of these guns were purchased off the shelf.

When we think of Eugene Stoner’s magic black rifle, we tend to think of it as America’s gun. Which is largely true. The English and Italians have some fine shotguns. The Czechs and Swiss both have made some fine handguns. But with AR’s, we never think of anyone across the pond. But should we be? For sure, that is changing. And one of the leaders of that charge is Hera Arms, based out of Germany.
