A 24-year-old man presents to a family medicine clinic after being seen in the emergency department (ED) 5 days prior for acute altered mental status. While in the ED it was noted that the patient had fallen before arrival, had an unstable gait, and slurred speech. The patient did not recall any of these events at the time of the ED visit. Over the last 2 months, the patient had multiple episodes similar to this, but not as severe.
