The Philippines’ inflation eased further last month to a five-year low, giving monetary authorities room to cut the key interest rate next week. Consumer prices rose 1.8% in March from a year ago, the Philippine Statistics Authority said on Friday. This was below the 2% median estimate in a Bloomberg News survey, and within the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas’ forecast range. Slower food price gains helped inflation decelerate below the central bank’s 2%-4% target range.
