The Baha Men. Soft Cell. Vanilla Ice. Nico Collins? The Houston Texas signed Nico Collins to a three-year extension worth up to $75 million hoping he isn’t a one-hit wonder like so many musical acts have been in their careers. The Texans want to see the hits keep on coming. Collins was spectacular last year. It took just 12 games in 2023 to equal his combined output of the previous two seasons. He stayed healthy.

The Texans had OTAs (organized team activities) get underway this week. Tuesday's workout was open to the media. These are not padded practices and they don’t always go full speed. The team did have some 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 sessions but again, there are no pads so blocking and tackling are not prevalent. Here are 11 observations from the OTA.

Nick Caserio is on fire right now. A year ago this time the Houston Texans had one of the worst wide receiver rooms in football. Many believed it was a horrible spot to send a rookie quarterback to develop. Nico Collins was an injury-prone unproven one-trick pony. Robert Woods and Noah Brown were the “highlights” of the additions to the position. The Texans might have the best 1-2-3 at wide receiver in the NFL just one year later.

The Houston Texans don’t have a starting defensive tackle on their roster. They have players who can start but don’t have a starting defensive tackle. Houston traded their lone starter to begin the day and finished Wednesday without a bonafide replacement at defensive tackle. Let’s piece together what’s going on at defensive tackle.
