The Baha Men. Soft Cell. Vanilla Ice. Nico Collins? The Houston Texas signed Nico Collins to a three-year extension worth up to $75 million hoping he isn’t a one-hit wonder like so many musical acts have been in their careers. The Texans want to see the hits keep on coming. Collins was spectacular last year. It took just 12 games in 2023 to equal his combined output of the previous two seasons. He stayed healthy.

The Texans had OTAs (organized team activities) get underway this week. Tuesday's workout was open to the media. These are not padded practices and they don’t always go full speed. The team did have some 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 sessions but again, there are no pads so blocking and tackling are not prevalent. Here are 11 observations from the OTA.

Nick Caserio is on fire right now. A year ago this time the Houston Texans had one of the worst wide receiver rooms in football. Many believed it was a horrible spot to send a rookie quarterback to develop. Nico Collins was an injury-prone unproven one-trick pony. Robert Woods and Noah Brown were the “highlights” of the additions to the position. The Texans might have the best 1-2-3 at wide receiver in the NFL just one year later.

The Houston Texans are 7-6 after their loss to the New York Jets. Here are 11 observations from the no-show in New York. This was the worst performance of the season for the Texans. Basically, nothing went right. The offense was inept for most of the game. The defense was diced up. Even special teams had some gaffes. This has to be the lowest point since the loss to Carolina. The Houston Texans are 3-3 and the bye week is almost over. There are 11 straight weeks of football ahead of this team. What are the 11 questions facing this team in the final 11 weeks? Here are the ones I have in no particular order of importance. How else will C.J. Stroud impress? The rookie quarterback has thrilled through six weeks. He is one of the top ten quarterbacks in passing yards, touchdowns, yards per attempt, and quarterback rating. He has thrown just one interception.

The Texans play their second of four consecutive NFC South teams as they host the New Orleans Saints. The Saints at 3-2 are just one win better than the Texans who are 2-3 after losing to the Falcons in Atlanta last week. Going 3-1 against the NFC South team is certainly on the table with 2-2 in the four-game stretch being the minimum ask. New Orleans is this stretch's most formidable opponent and the best defense the Texans and C.J. Stroud will face.

The Houston Texans are now 2-3 after losing to the Atlanta Falcons 21-19. Here are 11 observations from the loss in Atlanta. This was the worst offensive performance to date for the Texans. Offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik continued to run the football despite the lack of success the Texans were having on the ground. There was no significant push against a Falcons team that had not been impressive in stopping the run. It felt like the Texans were running into a wall.
