We had some pretty bad storms last weekend that left a lot of our school families without power. My wife and I spent our spring break in Alaska. I had the privilege of spending some time working with students, teachers, and families. Giving fourteen presentations in four days felt life-changing. The thing that I noticed over and over again was how much pride everyone had in being Alaskan. It feels like a place that is VERY easy to to fall in love with. My wife and I have been to a lot of amazing places together, and it is often hard to leave and come home.

It felt like spring break was very far a way for a very long time. Somehow we made it to break! I’m spending the next week with my wife in Alaska doing school visits and working with teachers. Last week, I finished reading aloud The Wild Robot series to my first and fourth grade sons. These young readers are the last two of our five kiddos. We had our first child my first year as a teacher, so I’ve been reading aloud to my own kids as long as I’ve been reading aloud to my students (18 years). I know our bedtime read alouds will not continue forever. I also that I won’t be the one to stop them. Just like it is in the classroom, the home read aloud is magical.
