    The Iowa Print Sports Writers Association has released its high school boys basketball All-State teams and 11 area players were recognized.  In Class 4A,Cedar Falls’ Will Gerdes was named to the 1st team and teammate Anthony Galvin earned 2nd team honors. UNI commit Trevin Jirak of West Des Moines Valley was named the 2024-2025 Iowa Mr. Basketball. In Class 3A,Waverly-Shell Rock’s Luke Frazell was named to the 1st team.

In Class 2A,Defending champion Western Christian plays West Lyon at 5. In Class 1A,Marquette Catholic battles Madrid at 7.

  • Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys basketball team falls, 57-45, to Marquette Catholic in 1A State Semifinals

    The high school boys basketball State Tournament continued yesterday and in a Class 1A semifinal involving an area team, Gladbrook-Reinbeck lost, 57-45, to Marquette Catholic. A second quarter rally gave the Rebels a 28-25 lead at halftime and they held a slim 43-41 advantage going into the 4th quarter. In the final quarter, Marquette Catholic held the Rebels to just two points for a comeback win. Gladbrook-Reinbeck ends its season with a 23-4 record.
