Dozens of grieving loved ones packed a Sonoma County courtroom Thursday as a Santa Rosa man was sentenced to life in prison for the 2022 crash that killed 23-year-old motorcyclist Vance Stammer. Charles Bernhardy, who had been drinking before getting behind the wheel, was convicted last month of second-degree murder and other charges tied to the fatal hit-and-run, including gross vehicular manslaughter, DUI causing injury and leaving the scene of a crash.
